Near the Lake, Mountain or Downtown?

Where is better to stay in the winter? I am planing a trip for the next July and would like to know which is the best place. We will rent a car, but don't want to drive a lot. Our major interest is the snow (first time), but don't want really to be very far from all the civilization services.

Thanks in Advance,

BR.

It depends on your priorities. If you want to be near the ski slopes, you should stay in the Cerro Catedral area.

If you want to be close to most services, you should stay in Bariloche itself.

As these two locations are about 25 kms apart, you main activities will determine which place will result in less driving.

(Cannot be any more specific, since I never go to Bariloche in winter).

Thanks, verobaires. better some info than none. my priority is the snow, but we will want to see the stores, go out at night to restaurants, etc. For example, i have no idea if i can have a problem with the police if i drink 2 wine glasses and drive back to the hotel... so, maybe to be close the restaurants area is advised? and where this area is?

No drink & drive in Argentina.

Was Googling a paper from Bariloche, which said last January, over 200 persons were fined for not passing the alcoholemia test (can't be over 0.5). It was a 700 pesos fine at the time.

Found here some information regarding Bariloche vs Catedral:

thanks verobaires;

I will try not to drink while there.

But it is hard with good wines and cold weather, you know.

I was only there for a few nights last year, but I seem to recall loads of restaurants on the main road between Cerro Catedral and the town itself. If you are staying closer to the slopes, you will not have to drive into town for every meal.
