We'd like recommendations on somewhere to stay near Bariloche (within 30-45 minutes or so from the airport if possible), possibly near the base of Cerro Catedral, where we could walk out of the hotel/lodge and do some mountain day trekking. With marked trails, just to walk about and see the lake vista's, etc.
I'm not clear that if we stayed near the lake that there are hiking opportunities for a 4+ hour day hike that has decent hills with elevation to traverse. Google Earth doesn't have hi-res outside of the city limits.
We'll be there next mid-April, so it seems (like our old stomping grounds in Lake Tahoe - which we see Bariloche often compared to and are excited to visit) that being at a ski lodge would give us the ski runs to hike up, or adjacent trails that are used for snow-cat traffic in winter.
As a fall-back option, can we assume that we could stay anywhere near town and hire a remise to drive us to a trail head and return later in the day to fetch us? If we go that route, we know this forum can recommend someone reliable!
We're experienced mountaineers, but will only have 3 days, so we're not bringing climbing gear, just light hiking boots. We want to head out in the morning and get back before dark - stay in a nice place that has food and wine to salve our tired puppies!
We came across Galileo Boutique Hotel that seems like that might fit the bill. But we need your local knowledge and appreciate all of your sage advice.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
