Excuse this delayed trip report. I took notes while we were traveling and am just now getting to publish them!
We stayed at Posadas Cavieres (posting a separate review).
- Catena Zapata
- Nieto Seniter
- Rented bikes and went to Mesa, Familia Tomassa, Altavista, Cecchin. All small wineries costing between 10-50 pesos for a tasting. Of that list, Cecchin was the best and very memorable.
- Aconcagua Mountain (drove to an area to see the mountain and walk around a nearby lake)
We found hiring a driver for the day to be the best form of transportation (between 400-600 pesos depending on how long and your distance). Plus, they seem to know where to go for lunch or a quick tasting. Great resource. Ask your hotel for recommendations.
We stayed in Maípu and really enjoyed getting out of the city. It was a very relaxing and seemed like a more authentic experience. Plus, a nice change of pace during your busy travels. The downside at times is the distance from Mendoza city center. It'll cost you about 200 pesos to get into town. Taxi rates increase after dark.
During our stay, we heard a lot about nearby protests and robberies. Seemed related to the police being on strike. We never felt unsafe but were warned several times to be careful and alert.
Getting to your hotel from the airport is pretty easy. There is transportation right outside the main entrance. They charged a flat 180 pesos.
