Turkey Visa for US -- get before or there?

Greetings. I live in New York and was wondering if I could get some advice as to if it is better to obtain a visa from the consulate before the trip or if the lines/process is very difficult or time consuming if I wait until I arrive.

many thanks!

United States of America: Ordinary and official passport holders are required to have visa to enter Turkey. They can obtain three month-multiple entry visas at the Turkish border gates.

USA (All Passport Types) 3 Months 20 $ - 15 Euro

get it on your arrival...no long lines or time comsuming most people tend to do it within a few minutes..

Many thanks! The paperwork to fill out to receive a visa prior is quite voluminous! I was a bit hesitant to do it onsite, but it looks like it is the easiest and fastest way to go?

Hi I dont think you should bother with getting the visa there unless you have time, the consulate in New York is in 821 UN Plaza and the number is 212) 949-0160 (4)walk ins for visa from 2 pm to 4 pm ,mon to fri,but to get a visa at the airport never takes more than 10 mins in a busy day, have fun in turkey

to repeat what Canmom said (and as confirmed by Poseidon):

"get it on your arrival...no long lines or time comsuming most people tend to do it within a few minutes.."

Just hand over the Dollars and your passport and they will stick in a 3 month visa which you then take to Passport Control who stamp the visa upon entry (and again upon departure).

Another quite important factor is that a visa from a consulate costs a lot more (about US$94, I think).

Hi ,

Fellow yank here. I've been going to Turkey for holiday for the past 10 years and I travel on my US passport. Never got Visa prior to travel.

Just get the Visa when you enter the county... it is very very easy. You only fill in 1 small card and I think it is still only $20.

Turkey is fantastic. Have a great time!

There is no need to do it in advance and as other posters have said, this will cost you much more. Get it at the airport/port - it is a very slick process just make sure to have the correct money as they rarely (if ever) give change!
