Every time we've been the shops/taxis etc just double the cost if your paying in Lira rather then Euro.

At the moment the exchange rate is about 3.2 lira to gbp so if they are still doubling up it should be better to take Lira. Of course they might treble up now in which case it won't make any difference but we went last september and the exchange rate was 2.8 lira to gbp and they just doubled up. We are taking Lira this year again.

The currency is Lira even although they price things in euro . They price things in euro because it allows the traders to set the rate to suit themselves. You will never hear them charging ,say 3.5 euros they will always take it to four which means you lose at every turn. You are far better using Lira and sticking to it .When you ask the price of something ask for it in Lira .Most will be happy to give it ,but those who say no ,just reply no thank you and they will change their minds very quick. You are best to exchange a few pounds worth of Sterling to Lira over hear before you go, which will see you through the first few days for tips and stuff and when you get to Belek exchange Sterling to Lira that way you will get a far better rate . There are quite a few exchange offices in Belek and if you look around them you will find the one who is paying the best rate. Use only English notes with no tears or writing on them as they will not accept these .

I always take Lira, our preference as we get a better rate. I know a very good website to purchase.
