Hey Hep - for my money I'd opt for Aquaria. Good location for restaurants and it's seafront. Your budget can easily bag you a Seafront Room or a Penthouse Room. The Alan Asmara is nearby and also worth a look; it's $80AUD a night though so not sure if this is what you're looking for in terms of standards.

The Rama is terrific, it's a bigger hotel, less boutique than the others with a gorgeous restaurant overlooking the sea and nice pool area. Downside is the location, you're a 20-plus min walk up a pavement-less and busy street to restaurants. Although there are always drivers in reception and most restaurants will pick you up/drop you off, so it's worth considering.

Maybe take a look at Bayshore Villas or Bayside Bungalows.

At 'the other end' of Candi Dasa.

Both share all the same facilities, suit your requirements and $150 will fit you into some awfully nice accomodations.

I can recommend Alam Asmara and have returned many times. It's a small hotel located right on the water. It is peaceful and tranquil with the most beautiful setting and the wonderful Rendezvous Restaurant at the front overlooking the water. There are no stairs and the whole resort is spotlessly clean with the most helpful staff. It's closer than Aquaria to the restaurants with Vincents right across the road and a cluster of restaurants. There is no beach but you can walk into the lagoon at low tide to swim and snorkel. There is a good pool with sun beds. The spa is excellent for massages, pedi and mani etc. If it is a special occasion then let the hotel know. It is USD80 (approx. AUD90) and this includes breakfast.

Hi Hep, if you are looking for something IN town, and you are looking for a hotel as opposed to say a villa, check out The Water Garden ... it is right in town (very central), they have a good pool area, you don't have to walk far to anything (no transport needed at all), they have a good restaurant of their own, and for a Deluxe Bungalow room (they are up the back with a large pond view - they are nice - you can feed the fish from your verandah) ... and they are no more than AU$100 per night ... so $50 left over for shopping per day :-)

We stayed there a few years back before moving to CD and happy to recommend it (when we are full - ha ha).

Hope this helps :-)

Regards, Geoff

Rama Hotel is a must, bit of a large resort though but excellent, make sure you get a suite which will be a lot less than $150 or look at private rentals as there are some great private rentals on C.D.
