we went back to goa last year after 10 years away. What a difference!! we stayed in Candolim, the quieter of the three resorts, we were in candolim 10yrs previously too. Very Busy, but still Goa. this year we're going back, so it can't have been that bad!! he he. We like rest when we're away, but enjoy eating out where we can watch the world go by in an evening. Candolim fits the bill for us. We booked in April this year for a trip next feb and got what we think is a good deal, travel on Jet Air, staying at Country Inn and Suites by Carlson, Candolim. Half board (although we won't eat in the evenings there as we like to get out and about) very good deal. YOu will notice a big difference. The beach has "shacks" all the way from Canolim to Baga. They do everything from full meals to Wifi. So if you're expecting a quiet Goa, you'll not get that. Saying that they're still as laid back and polite as ever.
MartinF, I don't think you will find many yoga resorts in Candolim (assuming you meant to post in the Candolim forum, rather than Cansaulim). It is quite a built up resort, catering predominately to the packaged holiday market. If you head nearer Anjuna, you may easier find the 'yoga vibe' you seem to be looking for. The difference in 20 years will be quite astonishing as everyone with land in the area has sought to take advantage of the tourist market, a market which continues to increase with the growth of the domestic tourist market and a surge in overseas tourism.
The extreme northern or extreme southern beaches of the state may be as close to the feeling of 20 years ago that you will be able to create. Or parts of Kerala.
Enjoy your holiday there.
