Shark cage diving or whale watching? Which is one is better?

I will be in Hermanus for a day in mid September. Since I have only a day, I can probably only do one of the two activities, shark cage diving or whale watching. Which one is better? Any other activities recommended in Hermanus?

Like asking "which is better, apples, or pears?"

Depends on your personal preference, as to which one you will think is better!

You can do both actually because shark cage diving you book as an excursion which no doubt is super and you will most probably see enough whales from the shores in Hermanus. You don't need to go on a separate whale watching trip.

You'll be amazed to see how close you will see the whales from shore, actually better than from the boat.

For Anders... No whales around in January - correct. But the shark dive operators around Gansbaai will be going out to sea. I use this one for my clients: www.white-shark-diving.com

Yes you can easily do both.

We stayed at De Kelders just 10 minutes from Gansbaai where the shark boats leave from, a gorgeous little village with lots of b and bs overlooking the water. Our room was right across the street from the water.

We did the shark dive first thing in the morning then went straight back to our lodge. We then got to enjoy the whole afternoon sitting on our balcony watching the whales right in front of us as they came in close to shore. It was just beautiful, to be able to view these amazing creatures from our room was very special and yes that was in September.

Before deciding to do shark cage diving, please do some research and make an informed decision. It is a very controversial activity.
