Cape Town

We are going to be in Cape Town for a week in September. We are not planning to hire a car and intend to use local buses where possible. We would like to go to Cape Point etc and wondered if it is best to book a trip in advance or whether we can book something from the tourist office when we arrive.

There are plenty of reputable tour guides / operators who do Cape Point tours so no need to advance book. I am not sure if Tourism offices actually book these or they just provide a list of accredited ones. Some one might enighten.

Hi Val

You say "local buses" I assume that you understand that service buses do not go as far as Cape Point and, if you don't have a car, you will need to take an organised tour or hire a vehicle with driver. As stargaize says, in September, you will have no problem sorting something out a couple of days before. Your Guesthouse/Hotel should be able to help.

On the other hand hiring a car for a day is very much cheaper (for two people or more and you say "we"). It is also much more flexible then going in a tour group as you can stop for as little or as long as you want - and I can assure you that you will want to stop lots!!

Coming from the UK driving is absolutely easy here in Cape Town. Roads are excellent, all driving rules are the same as the UK and signs are in English. Traffic is lighter than in any UK city and, on the peninsula tour you can't get lost! Either keep the sea to your right and the mountain to your left, if you go anti-clockwise. Or the sea to your left and the mountain to your right if you go the other way!!

Hi Val.

tours are easy to arrange when you are here, but having a tour booked is always good.
