Could someone please advise how safe Long Street is for an elderly couple after 18.00.
sorry but can you tell us what is "elderly"? My husband and I are late 60's early 70s and we have walked Long street to restaurants in the past, but not late - usually no later than 9 p.m.
Spot on. Answer was just what we needed. Many thanks. Just a thought, how long ago was this?
It will also depends what time of the week your visit will be. Thursdays to Sundays is usually very busy with loads of parties and night clubs. Monday to Wednesday is normally a bit quiet. But in general i would also not recommend to walk very late at night in Long Street. Take a nice walk up Long Street when maybe wanting to eat at Mama Afrika for dinner and get a taxi back to your place of accommodation.

What Hank says is exactly what we have always done. Our 4th visit will be in January 2014. Our first in 2008, then 2010. Although we were in CT in 2012 we didn't go into the city for an evening meal as we stayed in the Southern Suburbs. Enjoy CT- wonderful city.
Many thanks to all for sound advice, will certainly follow. Regards to all.
