Garden route to outshoorn from CT

In August We want to drive the garden route to end up in Outshoorn. And then on to Margate any suggestions on scenic routes and accommodation.

Mmmm, thats quite a broad question.

Firstly Outshoorn isn't really on the Garden Route (which is the tourist name for the N2 highway running between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth) - its about 2 hours inland from George (which is about half-way between CT and PE).

I would normally recommend a drive from CT inland to the winelands on the equally scenic R62 to Outshoorn. The drive only takes about 5 hours direct but there are some great towns along the way (and lots of wine estates to visit!) so you could easily spend a week, stopping along the way). Form Outshoorn you would want to head to the coast to George (2 hours scenic drive) and then onto Knysna/Plettenberg bay area - also great for a few days of exploring.

Now from Knysna the Garden route continues to PE (about 4 hours for that drive) and the great thing about PE are all the Game reserves where you can do a safari for a few days (Addo is the biggest, but there are a variety depending on your budget).

From that area to Margate (still on the N2 highways) is another 8-10 hour drive through the Transkei region (very rural, rolling green hills). And once again, lots of places to stop over (the Wild Coast, The Drakensberg mountain range).

So you can do that trip in a month or in a week - how much time do you have and what are your priorities (winelands, safari, food, scenery?) and budget?

For accommodation in Ootshoorm I would look no further than the Monte Cristo Manor Lodge which offers exceptional quality rooms, great food and superb service which is all you can ask for especially when so fairly priced
