Vineyard with children - playgrounds?

Hi, we are going to Cape Town with two small children (6 and 4 yrs.). We would also like to visit a vineyard, but not stay there overnight. Can anyone recommend a child-friendly vineyard, with good food and wine and a NICE playground that will keep the kids busy for a while, so that we can enjoy our meal.

Thank you.

Take the train or drive to Spier just outside Stellenbosch. It's a bit touristy, but a lovely family day out. They have plenty of grass, swans on a little lake, cheetahs you can touch (for a not-so-small fee), eagles, pony rides and carriage-rides through the vineyards, They have 4 restaurants and a deli and children are made very welcome.

Zevenwacht have a restaurant and a nice playground. They offer tractor-driven tours through the vineyards - very exciting for children - but you have to book in advance.

Our 5-year-old daughter really enjoyed the tour of Durbanville Hills winery, which is NOT a vineyard, but a huge sterile winery. We had a personal half-hour tour and they explained each step of the process to her. She was fascinated.

Another nice visit is at the tiny Rust and Vrede estate as it has all the elements - vineyards, walk through the cellar etc. But they don't do formal tours.

Delaire offer a superb picnic under the trees but I don't remember a formal playground.

Hi,

you may also want to consider:

1. Seidelberg Estate---- great views with tables outside on huge lawn, good restaurant, cellar, glass blowing/art.

2. Boschendal Estate - Choice of a pic nic basket or Restaurant and sufficient area for kids to have fun.

3. Fairview Estate - Cheese & Wine tasting with a Swiss goat yard & tower for the Kids (Big & Samll)

Hope it helps

We are also going to Cape Town with two young children (6 and 8). Have you found accomodations that will accomodate a family of 4? (A kitchenette or breakfast included would be nice.)

I appreciated the responses that you received regarding the vineyards. They were helpful to me as well.

Cheers!

@emc2, yes we found plenty of accommodation for a family, there seem to be innumerous vacation homes / apartments. We have booked a 2 bedroom apartment with two bathrooms right on the beach in Milnerton for 5 nights. The price is 700 Rand per night. Milnerton is about 15 minutes from the Waterfront. Just enter "self catering accommodation Cape Town" into Google and you will get all the information you need. We booked through the page www.wheretostay.co.za, There we also found a nice vacation home (3 bedroom house) in Knysna.
