Cape Town & Botswana

My husband and I will be traveling to SA in the middle of our round the world trip. We'll be flying into Cape Town mid March and leaving from Johannesburg first of April. Would greatly appreciate any suggestions for the following:

1) Cape Town - we thought we would base ourselves in Cape Town for 1 week, rent a car and take day trips to wine areas and explore along the coast. We are looking for an apartment/house to stay for 1 week. Suggestions? Is Cape Town a good base from which to explore or should we stay at 2-3 places? Is 1 week enough time?

2) from Cape Town to J'burg - fly or drive? Can we drive the Garden Highway as we move from Cape Town to J'burg? Suggestions for places to stay? Forest Ferns?

3) Safari in Botswana - we live part time in Thailand and are fortunate to have a friend that rescues elephants so we are looking for a safari that focuses on other animals. Is Botswana the place to go? Any specific suggestions? 4 days?

4) Seychelles - have always dreamed about going. Is it worth it? How would we get there from J'burg? Is Maurtius a better choice?

Many thanks for any advice.

1. Re: Cape Town & Botswana

It's a longish drive from cape town to joburg, and while you can cruise up the garden route and then branch North around Port Elizabeth, the trip from the coast will be hot and not brimfull of exciting attractions

if yo uwant to do the garden route, why not go as far as Port Elizabeth, then get a cheap internal flight with kulula or saa from PE to Joburg

Have fun
