A word of warning.

Our hire car was fine and we had no problem until this morning.

The car doors lock automatically just after starting to drive and can't be locked manually from inside. We got out and locked up and a baboon came trying to open the car with the door handles.

In the time it takes for us to unlock, get into the car and start driving, it would have succeeded in gaining entry. We had to wait it out until another car arrived and it tried its luck with them but not before it urinated over our windscreen.

We had not stopped to see baboons but to photograph the scenery and the baboon was very quick to notice and turn up.

1. Re: A word of warning.

Eileen,

All part of the "African Adventure"!

Good thing you waited, because, as you know ANY wild animal can be potentially dangerous.

So glad you have enjoyed your visit.

Please spread the word far and wide !!

Have you spent any time in Johannesburg/Pretoria area?

There is much to see, and if you have not, then perhaps you should consider visiting Gauteng Province on your next visit.

November would be a good time, as Johannesburg and Pretoria are breathtaking at that time, when the Jacaranda trees are in bloom.

AND its as "safe" ( ;-D ) as the rest of the country!

regards

Gavin

With only 3 weeks, we kept to the Western Cape which provided us with a variety of experiences without too much time spent driving but we will certainly explore elsewhere in South Africa when we are able.

The trouble is for the past 4 years we've had our son and family living in Barbados and our daughter and son-in law in Western Australia. The Barbados branch of the family is now back in UK but we'll still want to go to Australia whenever possible. We've done several road trips there tied in with our visits and enjoyed them all but no reason why we can't visit SA on the way to or from there.
