sun city/pilanesburg for 2 nights or kruger??

We are a family of 4 adults landing in Joburg on 15th may morning. But we are confused between going to sun city/pilanesburg or kruger? We have only 2 nights before we fly off to the garden route.

Also if Sun City then one of the hotels or game lodges?? As we would like to experience a safari as well? Also I've read the Valley of waves is shut during that time? What else is there to do at Sun City??

And if Kruger then any budget to medium range lodges that are within 4hrs driving distance??

Allthough I am living right at the borders of Kruger park, I would advise you to go to Pilanesberg, only due to the little time you have.

From the airport, you will be in app. 2 hours at Pilanesberg which enables you to still go for a safari/game drive the same day. You would not be able to do that when coming to Kruger Park. Also on your day of departure, you may still fit a drive in, depending on the time of your flight out OR Tambo.

Sun City is a huge complex with a Casino and various Hotels and Restaurants, 2 stunning Golf courses and The Palace Hotel, impressive!

The valey of waves is overrated (IMHO) and a possible closure should not stop you from going to Pilanesberg.

The drive from JHB one way to wherever around KNP will be min 4,5 hours, you lose a whole day.

Hope this helps.
