countdown is on, how's the weather?

Well we should be in Kruger in just over a week! Final packing lists being completed.

Keep reading about chilly mornings and evenings on safari rides, I guess being in open vehicles makes it seem a lot colder.

What are the coldest temps we can expect?

Sean if you are doing morning or evening drives on an open vehicle you will need lots of layers. Yes it's all about the wind chill factor, and it can be truly icy when moving along up high on the truck. We have even found this out of winter!

You may only need Tshirts during the day but over that for the drives I would add a fleecy jumper/ jacket and a warm coat, plus scarves, gloves and beanie. Scarves around the neck are very important. Many private lodges provide blankets for the drives and some also provide hot water bottles.

I did just see someone enjoying a beautiful 30 degree day in the park so hopefully you should get some nice sunny days.

Mid twenties during the day is normal but you can expect single digits at night.

Sean

The only time i really felt miserably cold was during the night safari, but they do provide blankets in addition to the layers as suggested by sandmans above.

Hi there,

Living right here I can tell you that it's a bit of a mixed bag right now - today, for example, is forecast to be 19 degrees (and it is a bit overcast), but Friday and Saturday were wonderful with both days hosting a clear blue sky and warm temps of around 28, 29 degrees each.

So, I would suggest packing mainly light long pants and tshirts, but also bringing warm jackets that you can put on during the game drives or if you have a day like today. One or two light long sleeve tops also won't go amiss.

Mainly, the wee hours are still chilly - especially if there is wind, so also pack a scarf, beanie and gloves for the game drives. This is when you will be at your coldest.

Warmest regards and enjoy!
