Kapama river lodge vs. Elephant plains

Hi all,

I am planning 2 days stay at Kurger for honeymoon.

Kapama seems good for the budget, but I heard that you can expect better game drive at sabi sand area. Are there so much differences between these two lodges? Elephant plains is further from airport, and a little more expensive than Kapama, so I was wondering which of the two is worth paying.

Please give me any advice!!

Hi there,

What a great location for your honeymoon - congratulations, and all the best!

Quite honestly, I would recommend Elephant Plains or another similar lodge for your honeymoon experience.

Kapama is a good option, but it is not the 'real deal'. While it is located close to the world famous Kruger area, it is not actually within it. To me, it seems like a hit and miss to come all the way to South Africa and not experience the magic of our flagship national park and wildlife area.

Kapama River Lodge is R2,500 for a standard suite, so I would look into the following options for your stay that are around the same price;

- nThambo Tree Camp

Klaserie reserve, tree house style chalets, excellent game viewing area & warm hospitality, laid back luxury.

- Gomo Gomo Game Lodge

Klaserie Reserve, relaxed and welcoming, exceptional game rangers and also a brilliant wildlife viewing area

- Elephant Plains

As you have seen, a great option for your honeymoon - good food, brilliant location, and of course - within the Sabi Sands.

Warmest regards

Between the 2 lodges you are considering, I would definitely recommend Elephant Plains.

I agree.. and if possible, stretch the budget to stay in one of their Luxury suites.. they are really special.

Thank you for the advice!!

I didn't know kapama isn't within Kruger!!

Then, It seems sabi sand area is better...

Klaserie area is the new choice for me, and it looks good! but how is it different from sabi sand area? Also, how are the access gonna be to klaserie?

Klaserie area is not the major choice for the Japanese traveller, so there's not much info...:-(

May I ask one more question.

I saw the comment that sabi sand area is harder to find animals than at a private fenced preserve.

Is that true? because I only have two days(4 game drives) and wishing to experience as much

wild life as possible.

We have stayed at Elephant Plains on 3 occasions over the years, Every time we have had several leopard sightings and usually the rest of the big 5. I would recommend it and the staff are really helpful, I am sure they would make your honeymoon special. The one thing re Sabi Sands is that they have leopards and it is a real pleasure to see them.

It also has open borders to Kruger.
