Nelspruit Airport and KMIA (Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport) are the same.

The airport code is MQP

there is no order or preference as it depends on where you are planning to stay.

Thank you Klaus.

Can u give me (in Brief) your suggestion for 3 days.

We will arrive probably from Victoria Falls (Livingstone or Victoria Falls) on July 3 and the only connection (on the same day) by SA is allowed only to Nelspruit , and not to Palaborwa nor to Hoedspruit due to the stupid requirement of 3 hours coming from Int. flights. Consequently, this "forced" us to get to Nelspruit. I do not know if this fact is a disadvantage or not.

We really like to see the best of KNP.

Our plan going back to JNB airport on July 7.

Thank you for your reply

Hi there,

Arriving into Nelspruit is absolutely fine - You can enter the Kruger National Park (self drive & self catering) or the private reserves (all inclusive + game drives) easily from Nelspruit/KMIA airport. The closest gates would be Numbi Gate, and Paul Kruger Gate.

If you are looking for a private reserve, your closest one would be the Sabi Sands, or Klaserie/Timbavati two hours away.

The requirement for three hours between flights is not "stupid", as Zvika 1 puts it.

It can take an hour, or longer, especially if there are many flights arriving at the same time, to get through the formalities, and out of the restricted area, into the international arrivals hall, with your luggage.

What if the incoming flight is delayed?

Then, you need to check in for domestic flights an hour before ( standard practice anywhere).

Deduct the five to 10 minutes you need to get from terminal A arrivals to Terminal B check in, and there is less than an hour in hand, which may be used up, if the incoming flight is delayed, or if there are long queues at the domestic check in, or one needs a toilet break, or stopping at an ATM to top up one's cash reserves.

It can, and often is, done in less much time, but I would not be prepared to gamble on it, and miss my flight. I would rather have the "safety net", so it is definitely not "stupid" to advise 3 hours!

I have had clients miss their connection because of delayed incoming flights, or slow progress through the arrivals formalities, when connection times have been "tight".

Thanks a lot, Jacqui.

I am just starting to prepare my flights since i need to book them pretty soon.

Regarding my definition to the lay over of 3 hours as "stupid", Gavin, I might went too far; however, as Jascqui mentioned that Nelspruit would be OK, I'll probably choose this point of entry to the Park.

I also, took a look on the all inclusive game reserve lodges and it seems to be over budget for us (me, my wife and our daughter).

Any suggestion (other then all inclusive) for close to gate and/or inside lodges with less pricy rates?

Hi Zvika,

The best thing would probably be to rent a car @mqp and enter the southern part of Kruger, e.g Malelane, numbi, phabeni or Paul Kruger Gate. Reserve a place at one of the southern camps, e.g. Berg en Dal, Skukuza, Lower Sabie for the three days ( www.sanparks.org ) and self drive from there. There is also the highest concentration of animals.
