Lodge advice: Naledi vs Inyati or any other recommendations!

Hi all,

My partner and I are due to visit the Kruger towards the tail end of October. We have been hunting high a low for lodges and really had our heart set on Londolozi, however they have extremely limited availability over this time, as do the majority of the lodges we have called. Some of the more expensive ones are available in Sabi Sands, however I'm just not prepared to pay their rates as our hearts were always set on Londolozi and don’t feel the cost is worth it for the other lodges. We would prefer to visit Londolozi on another trip and perhaps take a step down in rate.

We have two options currently (a big step down from Londolozi) – Inyati or Naledi. We have stayed at Naledi before and had a great time, however would really love to head somewhere in the Sabi Sands region (leopards!). Is it worth paying the extra for Inyati as opposed to doing a Naledi return?

Any other lodge suggestions are welcome. We had also considered Tanda Tula as another option? We are looking at spending no more than about R5000 pppn.

Sorry for the muddled question – we are just a little confused and disappointed we couldn’t get our first choice. We are planning a 2 day self drive, 2 day lodge trip.

Many thanks,

Julianne

We are going to stay at Inyati in September. Lodges in Sabi are more expensive than in other reserves such as Balule. We picked Inyati on the advice of Tanya Kotze - Africa Direct, a regular TA poster, whom we emailed for advice on Sabi lodges. We wanted an affordable option & great leopard viewing. Tanya suggested Inyati, so we booked it through her .We hope it will be worth the extra $$ but Naledi is hard to beat value for money, so we are going back there again as well, to stay at the newer lodge, Enkoveni.

Hi julianneg,

I've been to Inyati many times and always had good game viewing. Its a really nice lodge, and a bit more reasonably priced than some of the others. Even though it is a step down, the game viewing will be just as good. Its great generally throughout the Sabi Sands. I've had great leopard sightings in the Sands, especially in the western sector where Inyati is located. There are other options like Savanna, Dulini, Idube, which is also a slightly cheaper lodge, Exeter River Lodge or Kirkmans, Lions Sands, Sabi Sabi. These are just a few other options to among many others to consider which would be around your budget, if you haven't already.

If you've been to Naledi before then I would opt for the Sabi Sands this time.

I hope this helps.

I would not look at Inyati or anywhere in the Sabi Sand as a big step down, in fact we have had amazing leopard viewing in that whole western sector.

We have spent time in the riverbed right outside Inyati on more than one occasion, enjoying the company of herds of elephants on the river there. Have even seen them on the lodge lawns and drinking from the tank.

One of the main differences between some of the lodges (which you could forfeit not being at Londolozi) will be the number of people in the game vehicle. This is an issue for some and not for others. Personally we stay where there is a maximum of six whereas we have seen vehicles from some lodges mentioned in this thread with 9/10 pax.

Thanks Dave, can't wait to get back there!

With cheetah few and far between in SS the past couple of years that was a great sighting.

BTW you don't know which pride the big boy is from do you? We follow some.

Inyati really is a wonderful lodge, and I have actually only really heard good things about it :-). Love the video, Dave! Great shot.

A bit late, but my 2 cents; Tanda Tula is FAB. Great food, service, quality, attention to detail, and of course - game viewing! It's definitely in my top 5.

Anyway, have a great trip, tell us all about it when you are back :-).

Warm regards,

Thanks for all of the replies - the video is fantastic!

I think Inyati is the right choice for us. Now to pick some rest camps to stay at on self drive!
