Tangala is not situated in the Thornybush Private Reserve, which is not part of the greater Kruger National Park, but is a seperate, enclosed reserve. That is probably why they offer slightly cheaper rates than the cheaper lodges in the Sabi Sand and Timbavati.

Although I have not been to Tangala myself, I've met the managers and they seem great people.

I have also not heard anything bad about this lodge.

Around that price, you can also consider Gomo Gomo in Timbavati (I can only recommend the tents) or the budget accommodation at Elephant Plains in the Northern Sabi SAnd.

Typo: Sorry, what I meant to type is that Thornybush is not part of Kruger, but IS part of Thornybush.

I agree with the previous poster - also investigate Gomo Gomo (safari tent accommodation) and Elephant Plains (standard accommodation). EP offers excellent game viewing and overall a safari experience that is good value for money!

Visited Tangala lots of times and had my best game viewing whilst there and we do visit Kruger Park and the private game reserves often. You will not even be aware that there is no electricity as they have lanterns all over and hot water available all the time for showers. Great food, great game ranger and tracker. I have photo's that I can email to you. I find Tangala absolutely worth the money.

Thornybush - where Tangala is located - is a private, huge fenced reserve with a large population of wildlife. It differs from the camps that are adjacent to Kruger, because all the animals are resident in it; no passing back and forth in and out of the Kruger park. Tangala, frankly, is a very good value. Every moment you are there, I believe, will be a genuine African safari experience.

Your posting name interests me because one of my old friends is a genuine Nubian. And perhaps you are as well.

thanks everyone the game lodge/safari thing is still a bit confusing. this will be my first time. it seems that the geography/perserve of whatever lodge you stay at it where your game viewing will be limited to, right? can you stay Outside of Kruger and still tour/safari in Kruger?
