Transfers

Hi All

We are due to travel to Kruger in November and have booked accomodation at The Elephant Plains and also one night at Arathusa.

We are to quite a tight budget as we are also travelling through the rest of South Africa.

We have been quoted R550 for a road transfer from the main airport to the Elephant Plain reserve(one way). Please can someone give me some advice as to whether this is a reasonable price for a transfer or whether we can get a more competitive quote. Are there transport companies who specialise in transfers?

Does anyone have any useful contacts?

All help appreciated.

Looks about right... these quotes are right in line with that:

2krugernationalpark.com/elephant_plain.htm And this firm:

wild-wings.co.za/elephant-plain-lodge.html might be able to help you as well. You could contact both and see if they have clients booked for the day you are traveling - might be able to 'split' the cost.

Hi

Thanks for info Dave.

I have contacted Wild wings by mail (both links had mail addresses for wild wings)

Hopefully I can split the transfer costs with other passengers.

We are planning a similar trip, flying in to Nelspruit Airport (MQP) and City Bug look like a good bet for the transfer to Elephant Plains.

How are you transferring between Elephant Plains and Arathusa though? I can't find any information about transfers between resorts..?

Chris: Elephant Plains and Arathusa are literally walking distance from each other. However, as this is obviously not allowed. If I were you, I would arrange with Arathusa to fetch you from Ele Plains. I'm sure they will oblige, as it is only a few km's and this will save you paying a transfer company.

Sorry I should have said, we're not sure what our second location will be, but it will be further north - maybe Olifants or somewhere in the Timbavati park - but much further away than Arathusa. What is the best way of travelling between them?

If it's too expensive we will have to stay four nights at one location instead of splitting the trip into 2 x two days, which would be a shame as we will presumably miss out on some of the big 5?

Hi danunited

I have information sent to me from Elephant Plains (I think it is also on their website www.elephantplains.co.za) quoting road transfers in 2008 one way to or from Hoedspruit R335/R255/R218 pp for 2/3/4 people and Nelspruit as R513/R350/R317 pp for 2/3/4 people so if 2 people from Nelspruit it is 2 times R513=R1026 total one way. Approx R255pp between Elephant Plains and Gomo Gomo in northern part of Timbavati.

I will look up city bug. Please advise if you come up with any better quotes as there are 4 of us and I would be interested in any info - we travel in June.

Teh short hop flights into Kruger and around teh park can be pretty reasonable. But I would strongly advise against using Nelair. They provided what I would describe as the worst and most frigtening flying expereince of my life.
