Kruger self drive & sabi sands

We arrive in Johannesburg on 19th November and want to spend 4 nights in and around the Kruger.

Our plan is to fly to Kruger airport, collect hire car, then spend two nights somewhere very near the Kruger. We will drive ourselves around the Kruger from this base.

We then plan to spend the following two nights in Sabi Sands at a private game reserve.

Any honest advice for accommodation would be helpful. It seams that some on here have an agenda so it is difficult to work out what to believe.

You could stay at the sanparks rest camps in Kruger. Then you would not have to pay the entrance fees etc. every time you wanted to go. They have quite a few camps, with basic but decent accomodation. Look at their website for info.

www.SANparks.org where there is a lot of good info about kruger and the camps.

Hi there

I agree with the previous poster. If you intend driving yourself around in Kruger it makes sense to sleep inside Kruger and the national park offers very good, even though a bit basic, accommodation. Usually, your chalet will be airconditioned, en suite (at least shower and toilet) and some have basic kitchens. The restaurants are OK, if you don't feel like cooking.

I would suggest that you visit the pvt lodge in the Sabi Sand at the end as this will, game-viewing-wise, blow you away!

There are MANY lodges to choose from, all varying in price in accordance with the level of luxury. In the Southern area, you are looking at paying from ZAR2000 per person per night. Up North, you find some lodges slightly cheaper. THe game viewing at all of them will be of a high quality. All depends on what you would be prepared to spend.
