What to do in Johannesburg??

My husband and I (seniors) will be in Joburg for two days this coming July and are looking for a few things to do or see. Should we stay in Joburg or go to a nearby city for a couple of days?

Any advice?

The most popular tour is Soweto and the Apartheid museum. This is a full day tour and you will have the opportunity to meet local people and also learn about the Apartheid history in the Apartheid museum. The other tour that I think that is also very interesting is the Pretoria tour and there you will see a lot of impressive buildings. These tours are more cultural tours and all about our history.

If you like nature I suggest the Pilanesberg Game Reserve for a full day. There are a lot of things to do in Johannesburg but not possible in 2 days. Pretoria and the Cullinan Mine is also a full day tour.

All the best

Hello, i would not suggest you stay in the old Johannesburg, but rather look at staying in the new area of Sandton, which is the new Johannesburg. This is where all the new hotels are situated and is very safe.

I suggest Holiday Inn, City Lodge, Garden Court West Street, Balalaika Hotel. All well priced and well situated within walking distance of Nelson Mandela Square which is full of shops restaurants and coffee shops. For tours, i suggest, the most popular is Soweto with lunch at Wandies (traditional AFrican food and loved by all my guests) then on the the Apartheid Museum. Alternatively you could do the Johannesburg city tour which includes the Fort and Constitution hill. If Paleontology is your interest, then i suggest a visit to the Cradle of Humankind with a fascinating Apeman Museum filled with ancient fossils. Then in the afternoon take a visit to the cultural village, which showcases the 5 different African tribes and see the Zulu War dance. If you like animals then take a trip to the Lion and Rhino Park, an open vehicle drive with an elephant interaction and if time permitting a visit to the Monkey sanctuary. So there is plenty to do in Johannesburg.
