SIM card foy oy iPad

We will be in SA for four weeks. We will be entering the country via JNB airport. Plan to spend time in Kruger and then do two weeks od touring in the Port Elizabeth-Cape Town area.

Can we get a SIM card at the airport. If so, who is the best provider and how much will it cost for a month worth of servicing?

Thanks very much

have you look into the roaming charges from your current carrier, they are not that bad. I just did this for central america. I dont think you can get into an iPad to remove the SIM card

It would be the first time I hear that international roaming is cheap (or cheaper than a local provider)!

You can get a sim card at the shops at the airport or any cell phone shop outside. We make use of Vodacom, which has got one of the best coverages in SA. You can get data only cards for your iPad (also as micro sim).

The cost is depending on the amount of data you buy. Check with your establishments, they may offer wifi free or at a charge. The same applies for your phone (iPhone GSM, not AT&T), provided it is not blocked for your home provider. For RICA (registration of your sim card) you just need your passport and a booking confirmation of one of the places you will be staying at.

You might not be able to get the sim changed at the airport, but you definately will be able to get it changed at a Vodacom / MTN /Cell C shop.

Remember to bring the little tool with that was supplied with the ipad to remove the sim.

In addtiion, dependingon where you are remember you can always use free wi-fi in coffee shops like Mugg & Bean, and possibly hotels where you are staying.

The outlet at the airport which provides the micro sim card for your iPad will be able to assist with getting the sim card into your iPad.

As for Vodacom/MTN sim card, prices and often coverage comparable. Deciding factor, for me, is really the sales consultant who assists you. Some are more helpful than others, and if encounter anyone will less patience, just try the other outlet.
