Getting from KMIA airport to Kruger before gates close!

We're doing a self-drive tour of Kruger

in July. Our flight arrives KMIA from Capetown at 14:55. As I understand, the park closes at 17:30.

Counting the time to collect our bags and pick up the rental car, will we have enough time to reach a gate and camp before closing time? If so, which one is best? Or should we overnight outside the park?

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE!!!!

From KMIA to the nearest gate - Numbi Gate - should take about 30 minutes driving. The nearest camp is Pretoriuskop, about 7 kms inside the gate. Skukuza is about 50 kms from Numbi Gate, but bear in mind their is a speed limit in the park of 50 kph on the tarred roads, which is enforced! You not only have to be inside the park by 1730 but in your camp. Depending on your flight being on time, I would think you would have time to get to Pretoriuskop. Whilst KNIA is a fairly new and nice airport it isnt huge and disembarkation and baggage reclaim is pretty quick. You MUST pre-book you camp accommodation. If you don't feel you have sufficient time I can throughly recommend a small guest house in Nelspruit. The Palms, run by Sue and Chris is brilliant and very reasonable for an overnight stay. If you need further info just ask. Enjoy

Certain camps, and I think Pretoriuskop is one, allow for late arrivals. You are given an escort from the gate to your camp. This comes at an additional cost of a few hundred rand. I think you should enquire about this service from the National Parks board.

You should have enough time as long as the plane is on time!
