Airport transfers to Shamwari

Can anyone recommend a taxi or airport transfer service from Port Elizabeth to the Shamwari reserve and also advise a rough cost.

Thank you

We are going to fly from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth to spend 2 days at the Shamwari game reserve, and are trying to figure out how to get from Port Elizabeth airport to Shamwari. We want to spend the most time at the game reserve as possible, and are wondering what the most efficient (while still being reasonably priced) option would be of these-

1. HIre a car (we would not need the car at all at the game reserve but could consider this if the route is straightforward and process is fast)

2. Book a private transfer (seems to be the most expensive option)

3. Arrange a shared shuttle (may be the least efficient?)

Would love some advice!

Hi,

Suggest hiring a car as, for two days, it would probably cost the same as a transfer but you would have the added advantage of being independent.

Having just returned from 4 nights at Riverdene Lodge in Shamwari 12th-16th Feb, we used Avis Private Transfer Service at a cost of R803 per way 9This was for 3 passengers). email: luxurycollection.pe@avis.co.za

The chauffeur who met us (Joshua) was extremely efficient and very pleasant to chat with during the 45min -1 hour transfer.

The roads within Shamwari are not surfaced - more like dirt, stones and rocks, and Avis transported us in 4x4.

I would be careful using a regular hire car as there would be lots of potential for damage.

As for the advantage of being independent, I don't think this would be the case, as you would need to be escorted by a ranger when on the reserve anyway. Basically any hire car would just sit in the car park for the duration of the stay.

I found being driven from PE was relaxing, and I wasn't having to worry about directions and other drivers. Just sat back and enjoyed the views.

Hope this helps and happy to answere any other questions about Shamwari.
