christmas eve /christmas day

we arrive in port elizabeth on christmas eve and are staying at bb so no hotel facilities, we hav'ent booked any restaurants as travelling man to frankfurt, frankfurt to joburg, joburg to port elizabeth, so maybe will just sleep or just chill! on the beach weather permitting, will there be places open christmas eve and christmas day to buy food, or restaurants that you don't need to book weeks in advance.

boxing day we go to kareiga game reserve so want to be relaxed to enjoy that really looking forward to it, after that garden route staying in knysna 2 nights montagu 1 night then to cape town for 8 nights to see england cricket team play south africa, and of course to see all the sights of cape town and surrounding areas.

we shall have a car for the whole trip, our first time in south africa so any comments welcome.

On Xmas eve, you should be fine. Most places will be open, especially at the beachfront. There are plenty of casual (not gourmet) places where you can walk in. You might need to sit at the bar for a while before you get a table.

Xmas day is more of a problem. A lot of places are closed and those that are open are booked up months in advance for lunch, even although the prices are hiked dramatically. Dinner is probably easier to get as most people are overstuffed at lunch and dont bother to eat later. Your best bet is probably to go to one of the hotels, as they should definitely be open.
