Sapa train

I am trying to book Sapaly express train. For some reasons, the agents i talk to trying to convince me to go for King express train or Livitrans. Is the service better or do they get better commission? Which one would you pick, why?

Just curious.

Actually, Vietnam Railways is operated by the government, and agents like Sapaly or Livitrans are only allowed to sell tickets and help tourists to book the tickets. Hence, to be honest they are all the same, only the services are different. If you can, buy train ticket at the railway station.

We booked with the company we used for the HaLong Bay Cruise (Galaxy Cruises). We went to Sapa on Livitrans and it was horrible. Maybe because of where the carriage was but it was like being on a train going over pot holes. We booked Fanispan on the way back as Sapaly was booked. We had a great sleep and it was much cleaner. All the carriages have the same narrow beds but Fanispan had water, cleaner sheets, sandals and just felt better. It was at the front of the train. Make sure if you have to use the bathroom to go right when the train takes off. Later they are dirty and you need to bring toilet paper. It is all one train but the carriages are different companies. Make sure you get to the station early to take your coupon to the Fanispan office across the street to get the actual ticket. Its less chaotic coming back. We decided to get 2 berths vs 4 berths as we didn't want to take the risk of noise in the cabin. It was worth the extra money for us as it was private and as the space is very small it was the best option for us.

I think it is both, but if you go to the train station and buy a ticket, it is much cheaper then just find a hotel once you are there, its a great place, but can get cold, so bring warm cloths,

Our group has just arrived back from Sapa on Fansipan Express - we followed the advice given by www.themaninseat61.com

He has travelled on many trains and gave this the second best to Victoria train. We totally agreed

Has anyone tried ET Pumpkin or Tulico Carriage? These were the two options offered to me by a tour operator.

Would appreciate it if anyone could share their experience with these train companies.

Sapaly is fully booked for our upcoming trip. Read maninseat61 and trying to decide between Fanxipan and Victoria. How did you find cleanliness of Fanxipan train - the bathrooms? Can anyone share their experiences on Fanxipan Express in the last month or two? thanks
