To Book or not to Book Hotels

Hi all,

We will be traveling through Cambodia into Vietnam HCMC up the coast to Hanoi this April. (First time to Cambodia and Vietnam) Can anyone tell me if you need to book hotel in advance, or just walk in off the street is easy? (3* or 4* Hotels + some cheaper stays) We have booked our first 3 nights in Cambodia but nothing from there.

We have written some Hotels down in each location we wish to stay but didn’t really want to book until we see them.

Thanks for any replies

hi bakpacker ,

You are on right track --book as you go ( or reserve better word) ---have list of hotels with emails, phones for each --when you arrive --look --book or not book move on. your hotel will call ahead for you to next destination --have a look at my " Do's and Don't Vietnam" and also "Communications in VN"

Hi Bakpaker!

Hotels in vietnam r booming, no need to book ahead. Anyway, try 2 contact ones you choose via email or any is also a good idea.

Thats 100 % again that please read " dos and don'ts"

Good day!

PS: Hoi An in Nov n Dec is exceptional, clever to do that in advance

traveling_say_yes,

I may add the same thing for Phu Quoc... The last time we were there in DEC, EVERYTHING was booked up... Other than that, travel thru VN is a piece of cake :)

No huge need to book in advance. when we were there hotels were plenty. We asked our taxi to take us to a nice hotel and when we got there, the hotels were more than happy to let us tour the room before we booked it. Since, I am picky this was great because if a room was not up to my par, we got in the taxi and went to another.

DanQue,

Since you mentioned Phu Quoc, I'd like to ask whether you've been to Condao. When I was there I chose Phu Quoc 'cause I didn't know about Condao. Recently friends told me some islands near Condao have very clean beaches.

And Say Yes, don't shoot me here LOL. It's great to have someone from Saigon or is staying in Saigon to contribute to the forum. Hope you will post regularly.

Daydreamer77,

By doing this sometimes I get very good deals. The hotels in low seasons are afraid I will run away so they gave very good rates and rooms. If I book in advance I have to stick to whatever room they assign.

This isn’t applied in high seasons. They will sell me rack rates (published rates).
