Polar Bear Tour

Hi

My partner and I are looking to go to Kaktovik in september to see the polar bears. What is the best way to get to Kaktovik from Fairbanks? And what tour company do you recommend?

Thanks

Here's a list of tour providers. www.marshcreekinn.net/PolarBearViewing.aspx

From Fairbanks, fly on Ravn: https://www.flyravn.com/ Use airport code BTI for Katovik.

Does Ravn air fly to Kaltovik alright? Do the flights get cancelled often?

Not sure what you mean by 'alright' and 'often'; but flight cancelations/changes, especially with smaller planes, are a fact of life in AK.

I'm doing a polar bear tour in September as well, which I booked in December and there wasn't much availability back when I booked. I was told the one lodge was already mostly full.

How was your trip? Can we see polar bears at the beginning of September? What else must see in Alaska around that area?

I'm not sure if you are asking the OP or not, but I can tell you my trip in September was really good. I saw lots of polar bears and the weather was great. There really wasn't much else to do in Kaktovik, but since you have to fly out of Fairbanks to get there, I combined it with a trip to Denali for the road lottery.

Hi Lager023.

Who did you go with?

Its a possible for 2019 for us, and the road lottery is a great idea, I'd love to drive my rental to past Savage River.

I went with Akook Arctic Adventures and had a great time. I believe the road lottery application period opens in May for Denali. Technically you can't take a rental past Savage River, but we did. I should also note we saw a few vehicles with flat tires including one by Wonder Lake.

Cheers for the info.

Not being allowed to, technically, in a rental has never stopped me so far!😉
