The choice of tours (Royal Caribbean Radiance of the Seas) is massive and we are still struggling to work out what to do in our day in Juneau. We woul like to go to Mendenhall but are having difficulty knowing which trip to choose and which other trip to combine it with. Although we like the idea of going for a ride with the huskies but we are not such dog lovers that we want to spend a lot of time with the dogs. We would be grateful for any suggestions on what other people did for the day in Juneau.

Juneau and Icy Strait are popular and succssful locations for whale watching trips.

Go to the Alaska forum and you'll see TOP QUESTIONS ABOUT ALASKA. Within that section is a link to trip reports for 2010 and 2011. There are several from people who cruised and did a DIY land trip. They will report on their choices and give recommendations.

The 2010 link got a little gunked up so I suggest that you start with the last report and go backwards, looking specifically for reports that mention Juneau or a cruise.

How many is "we"? How about renting a car? National and Rent A Wreck are near the cruise docks, drive to Mendenhall then drive "out the road" along the coast. St. Therese, great scenery, some hiking if of interest, and more.
