We were in Juneau early June 2011 and booked our whale watching trip with Rumrunners, and were so glad we did. We were a party of three couples, and booked the "Captains Choice" tour which meant that we had a private charter, as the boat holds a maximun of six passangers, and price is very reasonable.
Captain Chris answered all our e mails very promptly, and was a pleasure to deal with.
We docked at 2pm, and Captain Chris was there waiting for us, with his trusty companion Moon (a gorgeous yellow labrador). We were soon on our way to a delightfull little marina where Rumrunner was waiting. On board was comfortable, and snacks and drinks were provided. As we left the marina we made our way up top where there were unrestricted views of a beautifol blue skies and sparkling water. The scenery was just as you would imagine Alaska to be.
Captain Chris opened the throttle and we were skimming the waves out to sea. First we saw humpbacked whales. We watched a mother and calf in amazment, we were with them on our own before all the other boats arrived. As soon as they did we were off again, Captain Chris found a pod of Orkas,we just couldn't beleive how many there were. We were totally surrounded by them. Again as soon as the other boats arrived we left. We thought it doesn't get any better than this when Captain Chris stopped the boat and started shouting and throwing bait int the air. From no where came bald eagles, swooping down right beside us. They put on a spectacular show!
We all agreed that this was just the best whale watching tour we could have hoped for, and can highly recommend Rumrunners, and the best whale spotter "Moon". We had an unforgettable experience. www.rumrunnercharters.net
