Kayaking?

You know when you see movies taking place in Alaska and you see people kayaking in the ocean or maybe a lake right in the middle of a bunch of icebergs and glaciers and they see whales or other types of animals? Is that just in the movies or is that something that people actually do? I know it's a dumb question but if it is something people really do, I would like to do it...

So, if it is in fact real, does anyone know how I would go about doing it?

You can absolutely do this in a number of places in Alaska. Is your only destination Juneau?

I'm hoping for the same experience, in Juneau or in Gustavus/Glacier Bay National Park.

AKAng -- are these not the best locations for this experience?

OK, for the really spectacular kayaking in a hurry (less that 5-7 day trip), look into getting an outfitter or a water taxi to take you to the active places. Whales migrate and glaciers are not always active, so timing is important.

If you are in Juneau, then check into the glaciered bays near town, or perhaps better, Glacier Bay. However, it is not the only game in town.

Valdez has great places a short taxi (water taxi) ride away, as does Seward and Homer and Whittier for the most common tourist destinations in great locations.
