Things to do around rarotonga airport

Our flight comes in from lax at 615am. But our hotel transfer won't pick us up till 130. I need suggestions to restaurants or shops/market we can check out near the airport during our 7hr break. Don't wanna jus hang out in the airport for that long. Thanks

Thank you all for your suggestions. We're staying in rarotonga for 5 nights. What is more cost effective in terms of transport? Rent a car or public transportation?

The Cooks passenger bus service is the cheapest option. You can purchase a 10-trip ticket which can be used by both of you. I think the price of this ticket is now $25 or $30. Cost went up recently. Otherwise a single day-return ticket costs $8.00 per passenger, with transfers being available.

Hire cars start around $40.00 per day(small car), discounts possible for 3 day hire and longer. You also need to purchase a Cook Islands drivers licence from $20 minimum, available at Police HQ in Avarua. Yet you will have the absolute convenience of transport this way to go as you please. You can arrange to have a rental car waiting for your arrival at the airport. A temp licence can be arranged to get you driving. There are a number of rental companies with Avis being represented here alongside local operators. We drive on the left side of road.
