Suggestions for accomadation in Cook Islands

We are thinking of stopping over in Cook Islands for 7 days on way home from NZ to UK. Can anyone suggest a nice hotel on the beach or near beach, that is not to far away from restaraunts and bars but peaceful. We are both in our late 50' (wife will not like that). We intend to do this early April 2014, oh what weather can we expect then.

Cheers

Kia Orana Martin, welcome to the forum.

The western sunset side of Rarotonga has a nice mix of beachfront accommodation and restaurants, either on site or within close proximity to accommodation.

Consider: Sunset Resort (onsite restaurant), Crowne Beach (onsite restaurants), Manuia Beach (onsite restaurant), Castaways (onsite restaurant), Sunhaven Villas, Aroa Beachside Inn (onsite licenced dining).

If the weather next year is anything as glorious as our current autumn has been you should be in for a marvellous stay! However, the above properties receive shelter from the prevailing SE wind just in case it does become breezy during your visit. And its easy to catch the bus to visit Muri or Titikaveka beaches for the day.

All the best for your NZ & Cook Is visits - kia manuia.

We love Muri Beachcomber - have a look at their website. They are self contained units practically on the beach where the lagoon is sandy and safe for swimming etc. The units are lovely and comfortable and the staff are great and you have a choice to cook or eat out at the restaurants within walking distance on the beach. The decks over the beach are a lovely place for an evening drink and each unit has their own loungers in front in the lovely gardens overlooking the lagoon

We return nearly every year and love it!

Hi Martin, 9 years ago we arranged our wedding trip booking at the Little Polinesian in Titikaveca and the 2 sisters owners could not help enough to organise the legal procedures and minor needs. The complex didn't have the restaurant yet therefore we were moving all the times with the scooter for 10 to 35 minutes each way and tried different restaurants and resorts. Kayakin, eating bananas and "laying on the hammock were our favorite activities on site. The best memory about the meals are for the Tamarind restaurant.

We didn't post any reviews about that trip as we were not TA members yet but after all this time, we still believe to have made the best choice.

Hello Martin

I suggest Sunhaven Beach Bungalows. It is quiet, clean, friendly and you can enjoy beautiful sunsets. Patti and Denis are very helpful hosts and the fellow guests are mostly our (young) age. You can walk few minutes to Shipwreck Hut Bar (part of Aroa Beachside Inn) for a coctail or a meal, snorkeling is also very good there. There are few other restaurants walking distance and you can always catch the bus that stops in front.

Muri is too busy in my opinion but it is nice to go there for lunch or for a stroll. Little Polinesian is very nice, perfect for honeymooners and quite expensive.

Anyway I am sure you will both enjoy this beautiful place wherever you'll stay.
