Where to stay for good snorkelling and swimming

We are visiting Rarotonga for 3 nights on our way back to the UK from NZ. There will be 3 of us (couple plus mother) and we are looking for somewhere beachfront ideally with GREAT snorkelling directly from the beach (we are both divers and mother has never snorkelled before but can't wait!). good swimming would be a priority too. I guess we are looking mid range and it would be helpful to have a kitchen area to keep costs down.

heard that Titikaveka is a good area - can anyone recommend anything there? what is Muri like for snorkelling?

many thanks

South part of Muri down around the SE corner and over to Titikaveka is generally considered to be pretty good snorkeling. Rest of the south shore is pretty decent too in my opinion.

Lots of small studio bungalows to choose from, but with 3 people you'll want a 2-bedroom and that's a bit harder to find (there are some though).

A few websites to check out:

Not much snorkeling in Muri beach....most is along Titikaveka...the Rarotonga Beach Bunaglows is a very nice place...a bit on the high side....Muri Beach Bungalows is in Muri Beach and is also nice and mid range.

best snorkeling is in front of the Fruits of Rarotonga stand along the beach...just ask anyone...and look for all the cars.

have fun!
