Worth Renting a Car?

We're going to be in Moorea for 10 days. Is it worth renting a car? If so, for how long? (JUst a day, the entire 10 days?)

(We considered a scooter, as we both occasionally ride in the States, but ditched the option due to safety.)

Thanks in advance!

Depends on where you are staying in Moorea. If you are staying at a resort I would just rent the car 4 hrs at a time depending on what you want to do.

Driving around the island only takes a few hours, but a one-day car rental (usually an 8-hour rate) will let you stop and experience things along the way, go shopping, have a leisurely lunch, visit the public beach, see the view from Belvedere, buy some jam from the agricultural college, etc. If you rent a car for 24 hours, you'll be able to get out a restaurant for dinner that wouldn't normally provide transport from your hotel.

I wouldn't recommend renting a car for the full 10 days; it's expensive and you won't wind up using it that much.

We're going to be at the Hilton Moorea.

It sounds like renting a car for a day here & there, might be the best bet.

Bill R~ Absolutely. Just rent on for a day or two as you feel the need. There's really no need to have on the whole time, as there will be days where you just want to hang out at your hotel all day...or you may be on a day long excursion. The rental prices are so high, it's silly to just leave the car sitting unused for a few days.

Only need to rent for 1 day as you can drive around the island in an hour if you aren't stopping. Could rent for 8 hours. Pick up late morning so that the time extends past when they are closing. That way you can keep the car till the next morning and go out for dinner.

Or, rent for a full day on a Saturday. Some places aren't open on Sunday so you can bring the car back on Monday and have it for an extra full day. Expect to pay about $100 for a day rental. Can rent from Hilton or from Alberts across the street.

Determinately worth renting a car.

We were on Moorea for 4 days last year. If you rely on hotel buses and tour operators you will miss a lot and not have freedom.

Care rentals are relatively cheap. Cars can be rented at the airport and the ferry terminal.

There are many great restaurants and shops etc around the island. The ability to drive makes them easily accessible at your convenience.

Regards...
