Tahiti vacation

Just wondering if anyone has used Tahiti Discount Travel? We are in the beginning stages of planning our June 2013 Tahiti vacation. I have received quotes from Tahiti Legends and True Tahiti Vacations. Tahiti Discount is offering us a great price at the resorts we want but must book ASAP. Don't like feeling rushed yet it is a very good deal. Just wondered if anyone has used them and their experience. I got their name from Frommers.

You should NEVER give in when feeling rushed or pressured.

Yes, I have heard of Tahiiti Discount Travel. I have even used them. They are based in California. Unless you are staying at Club Bali Hai on Moorea, I don't think their pricing is that much better than many other agencies.

They are about $1500 per couple cheaper and are offering a Tahati Safari jeep ride on Moorea too. They are also including premium seating on the flight from LA to Papeete and a mountain view/sunset view Diamond level overwater bungalow at the Intercontinental on Bora Bora. Guess we may think on it for a while. Just seemed strange they were so much cheaper than Tahiti Legends and a couple others. Glad to hear you used them. Thanks

Premium seating? Last time I used them I was put in the last row of the front cabin...in a seat that didn't recline and was right at the restroom. And trust me....about half way through the flight....after people have had their meal... you do NOT want to be seated near the rest room. Thank God I was able to change our seats to the middle of the rear for our trip home!

How long are you going? When? And what hotels?

We are traveling next June. We plan on being in Moorea for three nights at the Hilton. Then on to the Intercontinental Thalasso for four nights and then three more nights on Rangiroa at the Hotel Kia Ora. We are in the early stages of planning.

We are also going next June. 4 nights at the Hilton Moorea, 10 night Paul Gauguin cruise and then 6 nights at the Kia Ora.

As Patti said there are no premium economy seating, only hard cramped coach seats unless you are in business.

I hope to get my Moorea stay via HHonors points but it is a little too soon to know.

Unless premium seating is something new, I've never heard of it either. You could try contacting Air Tahiti and asking them directly. They ought to know best of all what kind of seating they offer ;)

I'd join the cautions about being careful of an agency that pressures. I ran into that once and, even though I'd booked once with them and they were highly reputable, I just don't care to be rushed and I hate a hard sell. It is true, however, that prices can vary from day-to-day, particularly as the exchange rates fluctuate. I have also had the TA I've used for my last 6-7 Tahiti trips notify me when the airlines are about to institute new fuel taxes or raise ticket prices... then I had a very narrow window to pay in full immediately to lock in the lower price or wait and take the higher prices. I suppose it's possible that there is a special that is expiring shortly, but that should be explained.

To check pricing (yes, I still do it to my TA occasionally, just to make sure her rates are still competitive), price the exact same package with several of the better known agencies specializing in Tahiti. The one time I priced Tahiti Legends, I found them expensive (but that was one time--things definitely change); I have always found that non-Tahiti specialists price FAR higher (as in thousands of dollars per couple higher). The Tahiti Tourisme page lists Tiare-certified agencies and it's a good place to start.

You're also still on the early end for booking June 2013--not everyone may have those prices loaded yet.

Thanks all. That's exactly what I am doing. I am getting six quotes for the same exact dates and hotels and comparing. I think the premier seating they are talking about is because I asked about getting certain seats, aisle 10 or 31 where there is extra leg room, and to pick seats this early it costs a little more. All of the travel people have said the same thing concerning the seats. I will keep plugging away and see what happens.

I am pretty sure they don't assign out the bulk had seats until at the check in counter. I have never done that, but I have heard it on a couple occasions....so I assume I heard correctly.
