SJO to Manuel Antonio

Hi i'm arriving into SJO on June 24th with two other friends at 8pm. By the time we pass customer and come out hoping it'll be around 10pm, are there any buses we can take to Manuel Antonio from SJO??

are there any good private shuttle company reliable to drive at night?? or do we spend the night by SJO and take morning shuttle on 25th? what's the cost on Bus vs Shuttle? any good recommendation for companies we can lookup?

Here's a couple of options for you:

1) Contact the driver, Leo, that we used in April 2016 and see what his quote would be. Leo Rodriguez Arce. Here's his contact information: Costa Rica #: 506.8378.0001 - E-mail: leratravelcr@yahoo.com. Here's his web site: http://www.drivercostarica.com/.

2) Contact the company "Anywhere Costa Rica" (http://www.anywherecostarica.com). They use a lot of shared transportation, if you find that option acceptable & more affordable for you.

We hired a driver (option #1) and really enjoyed that option. The roads there, in my opinion, require a special set of driving skills (some roads are paved, some are washboard gravel, some are winding). The roads are not always marked with lines. We enjoyed being able to have a cold one or two while someone else did the driving and we could enjoy the scenery instead of concentrating on the roads.

Packing tip: Bring DRAMAMINE for motion sickness! Better to be safe than sorry, as mom always says. ;)

The last bus to Manuel Antonio leaves San Jose at 7:30 PM. So that won't help you.

The cost of the public bus is about 4500 colones - so less than $10 per person. If you want to take one of the directo buses, you would have to get to the Tracopa station in San Jose - which by cab would cost a bit over $30.

Shared shuttles cost about $50 per person. With 3 of you you might as well hire a private driver. The cost to Manuel Antonio is about somewhere between $150 and $175 give or take. A driver is more convenient than shared since the shared shuttles only run at scheduled times.

Uber is operating in Costa Rica but I have only heard of people using it as a taxi equivalent in the San Jose /Central,Valley area. Don't know if they do longer trips.

Interbus and Grayline are popular shuttle services if you want to explore those. I'd just stay the first night near the airport and head out early the next morning.

Check with Everywhere Costa Rica (everywherecr.com) I paid 140$ for a private transfer from SJO to Manuel Antonio, Keep in mind that a share shuttle will cost you 50$ per person. So if you are traveling with 2 or more people a private shuttle sounds more reasonable.

Good Luck

We just came back from MA area via San Jose and we rented a vehicle and drove. It is a very long drive during daytime hours, I would imagine it will be much longer via bus. The buses are nice and they are running constantly, so I would think you'll be able to get one. Ask someone inside the airport first before headed outside. There are way too many opportunist outside that will try to offer transportation. MA is awesome!!

I'll save you the trip. There are NO buses from the airport to Manuel Antonio. You'd have to go to San Jose to catch the bus. $30 for a taxi ride negates the savings. A private driver is better. As someone said, using a driver, you can relax, drink a beer or two and arrive relaxed, vs renting a car and tackling Costa Rica roads and traffic.

In your case better to hire a private driver… $ 165.00 USD …no shuttles that late at night…Uber more expensive and incredible…some of UBER drivers have no idea how to get to Manuel Antonio…deal with private companies that are approved by ICT…no ICT find somebody else/
