Alamo car rental insurance

Hello, I will be renting a SUV at Alamo from the SJO location in an upcoming trip. I am curious if anybody has had any issues with declining the CDW insurance offered through Alamo. I have read various reports about the types of insurance offered and required -- we will be paying for the Primary Liability Insurance through Alamo, as this is mandatory, but I am under the impression that I am able to decline the CDW insurance if I can show proof of coverage. I have CDW Coverage through MasterCard, and will be bringing a document stating my benefits (have a letter of benefits sent from my Mastercard services in English and Spanish)

Has anyone else had any experiences with this? I've read a few reports of rental companies refusing to acknowledge CDW from credit cards. I'm hoping that Alamo won't be an issue, since it's such a well-known company. Any insight would be great! Thanks.

canada - simply book through the site of the Costa Rican franchise. For example, book through:

https://vamosrentacar.com

http://wild-rider.com

https://www.alamocostarica.com

http://www.adobecar.com/en/

https://www.budget.co.cr

https://www.dollarcostarica.com/en/

Some people report success booking through alamo.com - which seems to be the only corporate site that is actually aligned with local laws in Costa Rica. Problems usually occur when people book through third-party sites such as expedia, kayak, etc.

Also, please do read all you can about renting a car in Costa Rica, the necessary insurance, deposits, etc. Do NOT assume anything - read the actual web site about insurance since some companies have a 20% deductible even with "full" coverage.

How was your experience with Alamo? Also - how did you get to the Alamo location to get your car from SJO? Was there a shuttle?

Kayla - the original post is from 2016. However, Alamo is generally one of the rental car companies forum members recommend.

Alamo provides a free shuttle from and to the airport.
