couple staying at Del Rey for a night

Our flight arrives late in the day, so we decided to stay overnight in San Jose before we drive out to Arenal for a week's stay.

We are fully aware of Del Rey and what goes there..we just wanted to stay there and checkout the madness..

My question is

If we just hangout at the bar and the casino, will we be the odd man out and get odd stares from the johns? Is it secured enough for us?

I just can't imagine why a young couple would come to Costa Rica for all that Costa Rica has to offer and then decide to stay at a brothel! For the fun of it........

There is absolutely no reason to go into San Jose at all if you are going to Arenal the next day. The airport is in Alajuela, not San Jose and you would be better off to stay in Alajuela your first night. There is lodging of all sorts and all prices 15 minutes or less from the airport and you won't have to spend the night in a brothel.

Would you really be comfortable sleeping on a bed in the Del Rey? Eww doesn't even begin to describe it.

Since the airport is in Alajuela, heading to San Jose is in the opposite direction than Arenal so that would be nonproductive for the next day's travel and of course, I wouldn't envy you driving in the dark into San Jose central, crazy traffic. Additionally, the area really is not safe esp. at night. As a couple, you will not get odd looks but the working girls will make eye contact with both of you. Let's just say, there are better lodging options for your itinerary.

Hard to give the proper answer to a nice couple...but simple...that hotel is not a hotel for normal decent couples...it may be the worst proff of social waste..very sad situation...Iwill reccomend to stay as far as you can from that terrible disgusting place!

Hahaha, kinky buggers, 'check out the madness' :-D Nobody stays at the Del Rey to window shop, if you really wanted to you could stay nearby (Sleep Inn for example, where we stayed) and just pop into the Del Rey if 'check out' is all you're genuinely interested in.

Have fun....!!

Well, that's a first....

Good luck with checking out the madness - what a bizarre way to start a vacation. Sure, you'll stick out as "odd" - I can't begin to imagine the interactions you are going to have.

Relax people.. :-)

We did go to SJO..but we were tihs tired and didnt have the energy to go out (let alone "checking out the madness").

We stayed at the nearby Holiday Inn and walked past this hotel in the day time..we expected a bit a upscale environment, but its not :-)

Will we check out the madness in detail in a future trip?? probably, yes!
