Dr. Silvia Longar or the Costa Rica Dental Team, any info?

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about either Dr. Longar at Clinica San Juan or the group at Costa Rica Dental Team?

After spinning in circles trying to find some way to do a language school and have dental work done in the same time frame, I think I've found the answer in the language school of Personalized Spanish. They have coordinated dental work and classes before and also seem to cater a bit more to non-traditional students (i.e. "older") which I am. Additionally, they will compress my class schedule to 4 days so that i have long weekends for exploring the rest of CR.

The last piece of this puzzle is now picking out a dentist that is somewhat close to the school which is in Tres Rios. The school itself recommended Dr. Longar but I've seen nothing about her anywhere on the web. That makes me a bit nervous!

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've been using Costa Rica Dental Team for a couple of years now and I'm very happy with them. They are located in Curriadabat which is halfway between Tres Rios and San Jose and their service includes a driver who I'm sure can even pick you up in Tres Rios.

Thanks for the recommendation and information. I saw on another thread, Prolijo, where you mentioned that CRDT is the same operation that used to be Smile20210 which helps a lot in researching them. No wonder info on CRDT was so hard to come by!

They have quoted really good prices for root canals and crowns. To quote directly from their email to me: "We use a specialist for your root canals and the fee for each one is $275. The crowns are normally $450 each and we use the best metal free materials for or crowns. They are made with very precise milling technology so they always have a perfect fit as well as looking beautiful and being healthy for you. We can give you a cash discount to $395 each."

Has your experience been that they stand by, or at least close to, their estimates?

This is all coming together nicely. The Personalized Spanish School is going to set me up for 4-day study weeks so that I'll have 3-day weekends for travel. Yoohoo!

The prices you got for your dental work are very good ones. Come back and tell us how it went

I'll definitely post back on here when it is all done and let you know how it went. And in the meantime, I'll be back with more questions! My next step is figuring out what to do with my long weekends and evenings.

They stand 100% by the prices quoted to you. Naturally, they might find you need some additional work once they actually inspect your mouth, but they're certainly not like a certain other often recommended outfit who shall go un-named (Ok, I mean Prisma) who have a reputation of adding all sorts of stuff that you don't really need. OTOH, I have 100% faith in the integrity of CRDA. In my case, on one of my visits, there was an extra charge for a special panoramic x-ray (which I had probably just forgotten they had already mentioned) and I had to go to another location to get for which I had to pay that other dentist $28 (big deal). The quality of their crown work itself is truly exceptional. They have a huge state-of-the-art dental lab that takes up most of the top floor of their building and which does most of its work for export to the US. According to their website, they've trained nearly half of the dental technicians in CR and having seen their operation, I would believe it. The big plus for you, if you have the crown installed by them is that they can quickly send the crown back up to their lab for whatever minor adjustments might need to made, should that become necessary.

That is so reassuring. Getting dental work done in another country is a bit unnverving but you are giving me the info I need to feel comfortable. No doubt they will find more that needs to be done. My local dentist has already told me that. The root canals and crowns are just the most urgent issues and the higher dollar items.

I feel really good about this! Thanks for all the support.

BTW, the root canal that I had last February with CRDT seemed practically painless compared to what I've always remembered root canals to be (in fact, absolutely no need, at least for me, for any pain relievers after I left the dentist). And my latest crown prepared by their lab fit so perfectly when Natalie installed it yesterday that she hardly had to do anything more than a few minor adjustments and simply cement it in place. That whole procedure couldn't have taken her more than a half an hour and then I was outta there (after paying the rest of my fee of course). I'm sure you're going to be quite pleased with their whole operation when you go.

More wonderful reassurance from you. Thanks Prolijo. I'm more than happy to hear about your great experience with CRDT. You didn't have to make a second trip to get the crown did you? I'm hoping they can do everything in a few days.
