Honeymoon?

Hi, my fiance and I are thinking about going to Costa Rica for our honeymoon. We will probably go the first week of July. I have looked into tours but they don't seem to include everything that we want to do. How easy is it to travel in the country. Is it relatively safe?

Congratulations.

Yes it is easy to travel across CR and is safe - we spent 3 weeks there last April.

We flew Sansa internally who were pretty good (SJ to Drake Bay) and took the bus the rest of the time (SJ to Monteverde then to Arenal then to Cahuita and back to SJ). Would recommend Gray Line (www.graylinecostarica.com) over Interbus as they're more organised.

Would defintely recommend a trip to Delfin Amor (Drake Bay, Corcovado) - great place!

Good luck

We did our own research, made our own reservations, got a car rental, and spent 2 weeks there. Driving there is different than in US, but that's part of the adventure. We wouldn't do it any other way. And it is probably one of the safest countries in Central America.

Nubes, are you looking to relax or explore, regardless of time? We have been to CR twice, and both times the driving was the most stressful part mainly due to the amt. of time it took and to lack of road signs. But we were able to explore roadsides, etc., which was kinda fun. Many people have recommended hiring a local driver. On our last trip, we hired a driver one day, drove one day and flew Sansa one day(of days that we required such transportation). Sansa or NatureAir can get you there fast and easy, but you miss the countryside. A driver can give lots of local information, find you recommended places to eat and will take the stress out of your driving. You can find people through recommendations on this site, through CR tour groups, or through your local hotel.
