No it would not be safe. It's a 5 hour straight drive in a car but shuttles pick up passengers en route & can easily take an hour longer. Airlines recommend that you arrive 3 hours before departure. agree with crfan. Not to mention the fact that the route out there is often closed or blocked due to landslides. too much of a gamble IMO.
About $ 200.00 USD for a private transfer…leaving any time you need…just be sure you deal with a reputable company…do not pay anything in advance…once in SJO go ahead and pay...
