As a 6 year resident, and GM of a local hotel I am asked daily about restaurants in Puerto Jimenez. Belive it or not, for a dusty little town in the middle of the jungle we have a choice of some pretty good restaurants. Following is what I recommend...Hope this helps.

CAROLINA - On main street right in the center of town. Traditional Costa Rican fare, and a little bit of everything. The Ceviche, in my opinion is the best in town! This place is the center of activity! You’ll eat and hang with the ex-pats and tourists alike.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner Full Bar! Open 7AM – 10PM Daily. (cash and credit cards)

CAFE LA ONDA - Follow Main Street 2 blocks past the Carolina, turn right. The Café is on your left at the end of the block. Can you say fresh bagels! Cappuccino! Deli Style Sandwiches! YUMMM! Michael, the owner will greet you with a big warm smile!

Breakfast, and lunch Open, 7:30AM Closed Sunday (cash only)

SODA THOMPSON - This traditional Soda is located in the same building as the Collectivo transport to Matapalo and Carate. Turn at Super 96, at the bottom of the hill in the “jail like” building. Open very early...You can get a hearty meal before you head out for your adventures. (the best pinto in town, my opinion of course)

Breakfast, lunch, dinner Open, 5AM – 8PM Daily (cash only)

SODA DEYA - Traditional Soda. Deya, the owner, cook, and waitress will serve you up a great big meal for a reasonable price. Turn at the Super 96, go to the bottom of the hill and turn left. It is on your right 20 meters.

Breakfast, and lunch Open, 7AM (cash only)

PIZZA MAIL.IT - Located at the end of the soccer field. Wow! Is all I have to say about our newest restaurant addition to PJ!!!! This is amazing traditional style Italian pizza that you can enjoy in their open air restaurant. OR…get your pie to go or delivered. Incredible pasta dishes as well! The very cool (Italian) owners, Fabio and Nadia will be happy to see you!

Dinner Only, Open 4PM - 10PM. (cash only)

GIARDINO ITALIAN - This incredible little restaurant is located just off of Main Street. 1st street past the Carolina, turn right, it is on your left middle of the block. A wonderful feast of flavors prepared by a world class Italian Owner / Chef! If you are looking for that romantic candle lit dinner, with wine and desert…look no further!

Dinner Only, Full Bar! Open, 5PM. Closed occasionally. (cash only)

CORCOVADO MARISQUERIA SEAFOOD - Located on the beach near the public pier. Look for the blue awning. The local fishermen literally step off their boats and bring in the fish! Great seafood and fresh fish. Big portions, a fun atmosphere, and good service at reasonable prices.

Lunch and Dinner Full Bar! Open, 11AM (cash only)

THE PALMS BAR & RESTAURANT - Located on the beach by the bridge. This restaurant has recently been leased to a great local chef. A little bit of everything, fresh fish, chicken, salads…but this is not a soda like the Carolina. Great tasty meals, generous portions, fresh ingredients…reasonable prices.

Lunch and Dinner Full Bar! Open, 10AM (cash only)

DELFIN BLANCO - Anyone for “CHINESE “ jungle style??? This is more like a soda that offers a couple “Chinese” dishes…and a little bit of everything. Past the Restaurant Carolina, take 1st left. Big blue building on your left.

Lunch and dinner Full Bar! Open, 11AM (cash only)

JUANITAS MEXICAN - A locals bar and restaurant. You can defiantly experience local color at this spot. Check it out for a Margarita or cold beer! (hint)

Lunch and dinner Full Bar! Open, 10AM (cash and credit cards)

MANGO REAL - is a fun spot! “Ya gotta meet Emilio!” The proprietor, is a fun local character! Emilio will regal you with stories and lots of laughs! Follow Main Street to the Corcovado BM supermarket. Turn right and go past the next street. The entrance is on the left.

Full Bar! Open, Most all the time! (cash only)

Parrot Bay Village has been leased out to a private group, and closed to the public for nearly 2 years. Including the restaurant. My understanding is that Parrot Bay will continue to be closed to the public through at least 2010. For more info or to verify this posting please call Parrot Bay directly at 2735-5180.

Excellent job Chris you nailed it. You can also take any of your own catch to the restaurants and they will be happy to cook it like you want it.
