P. Jimenez vs. Drake Bay

We are traveling to Costa Rica for two weeks on a (reasonable) budget, and want to include a visit to Corcovado, and are having trouble deciding where to stay, in Puerto Jimenez (at the Costa Rica Expeditions Lodge) or Drake Bay. Is one region better over another? We absolutely want to do a Corcovado hike, and from what I understand either of these places are situated well for that.

Also, after Corcovado we want to round out our trip with a few days at Manuel Antonio. Can anyone recommend bus or ground transport options between these two places, and an approximate cost for us to expect.

Thank you!

We just returned from staying in the Puerto Jimenez area. I'd say it probably depends upon what you like to do. Drake Bay would definitely be easier to leave from using ground transport to go to MA, but --- I go with the recommendations of not even trying it!! If you are planning on going any time during the green season (May through November) you will be dealing with washed out roads, mudslides and potentially washed out bridges. The week we were there was right after Tropical Storm Alma and all roadways into the Osa Peninsula were blocked off due to the above. Fly - the flights are not that expensive. around $100.

The Costa Rica Expeditions Lodge...(tent Camp) is near Carate...and Carate is about 1 hour 30 minutes from Puerto Jimenez...you can take a colectivo from Puerto Jimenez to Carate...they run at different hours during the day!!

In Carate is one of the entrances to Corcovado..is another place to check around there LUNA LODGE...good location...I stayed there a few days ago...nice people...great views...in a dark night and clear sky...millions of stars...and the jungle noise!!
