Travel to Montezuma in August??

We know that August is the "wet season" in Costa Rica, but we were wondering if this gets in the way in terms of enjoying the beach, snorkeling trips etc. In other words..is it "monsoon wet" or occasional? Also, any suggestions for exploring other cool areas in Costa Rica in addition to Montezuma? Ideally we would like some beach time and some more "jungle exploration." We don't require anything too fancy...we like the concept of "ecotourism" if possible.

Montezuma in August is generally not "monsoon" wet. Mornings and afternoons are sunny and dry but thunderstorms (with heavy rain) pop up in the late afternoon and evening. Bring an umbrella when you go out to dinner. It does, unfortunately, have an impact on snorkeling. Heavy rain means runoff which means silt in the water and poor visibility. On the other hand, the vegetation is a great deal more lush at this time of year.
