Manuel Antonio Park - Trail Update

Just an update after spending the past 10 days in Manuel Antonio.

Their are only 3 trails open. The trail from the entrance to the beach, the trail between Playa Manuel Antonio and Playa Espadilla Sur and the Punta Catedral lookout trail. hese are the 3 most basic trails in the park.

The main trails that lead to the other beaches and the trails that lead deeper into the park are all closed and look like they will be for a while. That's really cuts out a lot of wildlife viewing opportunities. Yeah, you can (will) still see the monkeys, a few sloths etc, but it's definitely not as good as having all trails open.

Honestly, it was disappointing since it restricted people to only about 25% of the park.

I understand the trail maintenance is necessary but they didn't advertise that all those trails were closed. You find that out after you buy a ticket and go into the park.

I wouldn't let it change your plans, but be aware of it!

According to a local guide, the trails will be closed until the end of May.

The trails that are closed (and have been for some time) are not the main trails of the park and most people would not even notice if nothing was said. All the main trails are open and the guided tours are operating as normal. It is definitely better with a guide you will see and learn so much more than you would without one. Usually a private guide is around $65 per person included transport, guide, entrance tickets, fruit and refreshments, etc. If you have more than 4 in your group you can probably negociate a better price. For those on the fence, definitely still do the park, you will still see plenty of animals and natural beauty!! Enjoy!

If you want a great day trip away from the craziness of the park head to Rainmakers. Went there today and the flora was incredible!!!
