Well, yes you can buy guaro at the airport. But you can also buy it at most supermarkets or most convenience stores. It's really inexpensive so it's not a big money saver to buy it at the airport.

Would there be any issue having it on the plane or at US customs?

You would need to pack it in your checked bag. Otherwise, the "3-oz limit" would apply.

If you buy it at the Duty Free, they will take your package to the plane so you won't have any issues with security.

From your original post, it wasn't clear what you were asking.

If your first point of entry is also your final destination, then you simply deplane w/ it, get your bags at claim and go to customs. Remember to indicate it as a purchase on your customs form (even though it's duty free, it still needs to be declared.) If you have to go thru another security enroute to another plane, then yes it has to be placed inside your checked baggage before you recheck it for the next flight. As Hattie said, sometimes it's just easier to purchase it at a regular grocery/liquor store and safely pack it in your checked luggage.
