Nosara

We have never surfed but want to learn. Any recommendations for Nosara area beaches and surfing companies would be appreciated. It will be in late January 09. Also will have snorkel gear with us if there are any good snorkeling places nearby. Thanks.

The beach to go to is Playa Guioness. Playa Pelada is not really a surfer beach (rocks and a reef) and Playa Nosara is in the Ostionel refuge and not really populated.

Lots of surf shops in the Playa Guioness area, but I'll leave it to others to recommend an instructor.

I couldn't find any great snorkeling in the Nosara area, but there are snorkeling tours run out of nearby Samara.

Not to say Playa Nosara is not a good surfer's beach--it is. But the surf shops and lessons are located at Playa Guioness....

Playa Guiones is the place to go. There are several places that offer lessons. Two are below:

I've not used either so I'm not making a recommendation.

Also look at: http://www.nicoyapeninsula.com/

It will give you good info about the area in general.
